Flu and
Pneumonia Clinics
Every fall,
beginning in mid October, the TAHD provides flu and pneumonia vaccinations
to the residents of our towns. We hold 12 - 13 clinics throughout our
geographical area. Our website will
provide times and locations for the organized clinics. We will post the
schedule early October of each year.
Influenza
(flu) is a viral illness spread from infected persons to the
nose or throat of others. Persons with influenza usually get a rapid onset
of fever, chills, headache, and muscle aches. This is followed by a runny
nose, sore throat and cough, which is often severe and lasts for days.
Twenty thousand Americans die each year from complications of the flu.
Influenza viruses change often so you need a new shot every year.
The Influenza vaccine can prevent influenza.
Pneumonia
kills approximately 40, 000 people each year in the United
States. The pneumonia vaccine protects against 23 of the types of
bacterial pneumonia that cause 88% of this disease. Unlike the flu
vaccine, the pneumonia vaccine does not change yearly. Most people need to
get the vaccine once in their lifetime. Certain people may need a booster.
