Tick Control Demonstration Site at Wisdom House Retreat & Conference Center located on Clarke Road in Litchfield, Connecticut. The Site will be open daily during daylight hours only.

  • From Route 8N..........Take exit 42, left onto Route 118W: 2 miles to Clark Road on the left
  • From Route 8S.........Take exit 42, right onto 118W: 2 miles to Clark Road on the left
  • From Litchfield Center.......Route 118E for 2 3/4 miles to Clark Road on right

    Sign # 1 ... Welcome Sign # 10 ... Install a dry 3 foot barrier where your lawn meets the woods.
    Sign # 2 ... Do a tick check every night to remove ticks before they become attached for more than 24 hours. Sign # 11 ... Cut lawn and meadows frequently.
    Sign # 3 ... Remove pachysandra and other groundcovers in areas of your property that you use regularly. Sign # 12 ... Fill in holes in stone walls and keep free of nesting materials.
    Sign # 4 ... Make it a habit to rake and remove leaf litter from all areas of your yard. Sign # 13 ... Remove ground covers from areas of your property that you use regularly. Replace with deer resistant perennials and/or shrubs planted in mulch, woodchips or gravel.
    Sign # 5 ... Use screening under porches to prevent the white-footed mouse from making a nest in this high traffic area. Sign # 14 ... Don't attract deer to your Tick Safe Zone (frequently used areas of your yard) by using plants that are susceptible to deer browse damage.
    Sign # 6 ... Don't attract deer to your Tick Safe Zone. Use deer resistant plantings whenever possible. Sign # 15 ... Select sunny areas of your yard to install recreational and leisure structures. These should be placed on a dry base of woodchips or gravel.
    Sign # 7 ... If you have fruit trees, keep the lower branches trimmed above deer height and remove fallen fruit regularly. Sign # 16 ... Assess your property and eliminate any potential mouse habitats.
    Sign # 8 ... Trim and clear brush in the transition areas between the lawn and the woodland edge. Do not walk, sit or play in these areas.
