Doctors, insurance companies and individuals suffering from Lyme Disease differ on treatment options, but everyone agrees that it is important to detect and treat Lyme Disease early.

Once diagnosed with Lyme Disease, patients are usually given an antibiotic such as doxycycline or amoxicillan. Physicians may decide that the antibiotics should be given orally or intravenously. Early Lyme Disease is often treated with antibiotics from 2 to 6 weeks. It is generally agreed that symptoms indicative of Late Lyme Disease require longer treatment lengths.

Treatment is usually discontinued when a patient is symptom free for several weeks.

Information on Lyme Disease is based on scientific and medical sources including research done by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control, the Connecticut Dept. of Public Health, and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station.
