Section 19a-92-1 of the Public Health Code outlines requirements for tattooing human beings. In those casas where tattooing is performed by a technician, a physician licensed in the State of Connecticut must inspect the operation and review the technician's sanitary practices. Such inspections must be conducted annually and the results submitted to the TAHD on the forms provided below.

Temporary Tattoo Event Requirements
TAHD has developed requirements for temporary tattoo booth setups such as are occasionally offered at special events or promotional gatherings. These requirements are as follows:
The above information must be submitted to the TAHD at least 10 working days prior to the event. A sanitarian will visit the site the day of the event to perform an inspection of the operation and review all paperwork listed above.
New Tattoo Businesses
All new tattoo businesses seeking to open in the TAHD must complete an application, submit a floor plan, and all required paperwork prior to opening.

- A letter from the supervising physicians with the last inspection date of the artist's operation.
- Blood borne pathogen training records for all artist.
- A sketch of the tattoo booth setup.
- A description of how equipment will be sanitized on site. If disposable equipment is used please note on application.
- A description of how identification of clients for proof of age will be handled. Records with client signature and proof of identity must be kept and submitted to TAHD upon request.
- Provide documentation of how biomedical waste will be disposed of.
- Provide a copy of handout information given to clients for proper treatment of tattoo.
